We are the baby photography specialist. Well known for our beautifully lit and perfectly posed newborn images. Yes between 6-12 days old is generally the best age for newborn portraits, but did you know that we can do this at any age?

We really don’t like it when families miss out on capturing these precious moments, or get knocked back from other photographers due to their baby being ‘too old’ after 14 days for newborn portraits. Some new parents just don’t have the time or energy to get around to getting portraits done. That is totally understandable too!

So, we thought we would write this quick blog on our page to let everyone know….we accept babies at almost any age! You can still get some of those beautiful newborn poses when you baby is older. Yes, really little fresh newborns is when you get the curled up look, but you can still get cute shots of your baby at an older age 🙂

We understand that pregnant Mums forget to lock in a date for their newborn session, or the new Mum and Dad are just too exhausted to get around to booking a photographer and attending a studio for a newborn session. Why should you miss out altogether? You shouldn’t, that is why we are letting everyone know that it is never too late to book that session and get gorgeous images of your baby.

This session, what can i say, it was a really beautiful session. I first met Mum and Dad capturing maternity pics for them as Mum knew this was it for pregnancies and wanted to ensure that she had that memory of such a special time.
Then along came her handsome little man, gosh he was just so cute too! An absolute blessing for Mum and Dad and an absolute pleasure for me to capture this moment for them.
I hope you enjoy this little snippet into this beautiful session.

Sharing with you all another one of our recent baby portrait sessions. This little man was so well behaved for me and we managed to get so many gorgeous shots of him! Lots of beautiful boy set ups and colours were used to ensure Mum and Dad had an array of images and colour in their final gallery.
This year we are adding an afterpay service for our clients, to help new/expecting parents afford to get their own beautiful baby portrait done. We understand that not all families can afford that expense upfront, therefore we want to help our clients have access to our services in any way that we can, and we hope that this is one way that will help families.

What drives me to be a newborn photographer? I get asked this question quite a bit. Well there is not one distinct reason that stands out to me, i have many reasons i guess. Though what drove me to focus on just newborns in the first place was……. loss.
When i fist started my photography journey my focus was fashion and portraits. I was in love with taking pictures of beautiful clothing. People dressed up, mainly in vintage clothing. I can see my love of vintage extending a little to my newborn set ups as well.
In 2013 i fell pregnant to my fourth child, i was pretty excited at this thought as my husband and I wanted to try for another child. It wasn’t to be though, i lost that baby at 8 weeks pregnant. In 2014 we fell again, to reach 12 weeks of pregnancy i was getting very excited as i thought ‘This is it, we made it”. Until this point i hadn’t told anyone of my pregnancy. We had our 12 week scan and to me everything looked great.
Few days later we got a call from my GP asking if we can please come in and discuss the ultrasound. My husband asked me if this is normal, to my knowledge i had never had to do this before with either pregnancy. At that point the worry set in.
I made an appointment and we spoke with out GP. My results were abnormal for all three of the Trisomy syndromes. My heart sank. I had never heard of them before nor had i ever been faced with all the decisions she was telling me we may have to face. I thought to myself surely this is all just a bad dream! I was told if it was latter 2 Trisomy syndromes to brace myself for the worse, as they are not viable pregnancies.
We were sent for a Harmony test, at that time it was a 2 week wait for results as they were all sent to America. That two weeks was the most agonising two weeks of my life. Waiting, waiting, waiting. My belly was growing, i didn’t know whether i should bother buying myself maternity clothes or even allow myself to get excited at the thought of my belly growing.
After three agonising weeks i finally got the call from my Gynaecologist to come in for a discussion. That drive into Wollongong felt like it took an eternity. I felt nauseas, scared, anxious and at one time i felt hopeful. Hopeful that the news would be good as i had googled that the ultrasounds stats can sometimes get it wrong.
Not in my case though. My baby girl had Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome). At 4 and a bit months pregnant i lost my baby girl due to the complications of Trisomy 18. My husband and myself tried twice more after this and unfortunately lost both pregnancies as well. 4 losses in 4 years was unbearable. Luckily i already have three beautiful, healthy children. Not everyone gets to have that so i feel incredibly lucky and grateful.
This is what drives me to do the job i do today. The sheer joy i get from giving families cherished memories of their newborn baby. Memories are what keeps us going, and for me, having the ability to capture those for families warms my insides.
Loss affects people in many different ways. For me doing my newborn sessions helped me heal. I was helping families and clients capture these beautiful moments, and my clients were helping me heal <3
Sharing this from a recent newborn photography session. This stunning gallery had to be shared ( i have a lot to share with you! We have been super busy in the studio) little Bella Rose was an absolute dream for me….4 weeks old and a squishy bundle of cuteness! Her grandparent purchased a gift voucher for her parents as a chrissy gift. A gift that will just keep giving for them all!
Check out a snippet from her gallery!
What is important to you when it comes to choosing your photographer? I have often asked myself this very question. What would i look for? What questions would i ask? Who would i think was my best fit in regards to my needs and style?
These are the very questions everyone should be asking before locking in a photographer. After all it is an investment that is a lifelong one. These portraits, i taken correctly can last you generations upon generations. My mother has portraits of my own Great Grandmother on her wall, and to view them is a blessing as it has been many, many years since i have seen her.
Often while i am editing my clients newborn images i think to myself ‘one day this little babies grandchildren or great grandchildren will view this portrait in pure amazement that this is their grandparent as a newborn’. It really blows my mind the power that photography and portraits have.
Below i have outlined some of the things clients should consider when booking in a photographer.
- Consistency – your photographer should have an established portfolio of work for you to look through and a certain style. Ensure that this style is what suits you and your family. Have some inspiration pics on hand to send to the photographer, this helps the photographer to understand the style you are looking for.
- Experience in the handling of newborn babies & children/wedding preparation and capture. This is so important! There are many photographers who just specialise in one field, so if you are choosing a photographer that specialises in many areas, ensure that that their work is consistent across all.
- Practices “safe posing” of newborns if you are looking at newborn photographers.
- Has insurance – in particular public liability insurance.
- Is fully immunised, with the recent outbreak of Whooping Cough this is most important and is a question you should always ask a newborn photographer before booking.
We are well known for our beautiful newborn packages, and below i share yet another example of an amazing gallery from Nerida Louise Photgraphy.
I have just sent this off to Mum and Dad and i can’t wait for them to view them. Their little baby girl is an absolute treasure and these images will remind them of that for years to come.
This little doll was an absolute pleasure during her newborn session and Mum was happy to try lots of different set-ups… so we did!
Five different props and lots of beanbag shots later we had an amazing gallery full of colour and cuteness. I can’t wait to see what image they choose to frame 🙂
Enjoy a little glimpse of this adorable newborn session. It is a goody! I really could have shared every pic from this session as well, but i controlled myself yet again 🙂
I’ve been bursting at the seams to share this beautiful sitter session with you. How absolutely adorable is beautiful Jadira 🙂
I photographed Jadira as a bubba in Mummy’s belly, then as a newborn, and now her 6month old sitter session. It is such a blessing to watch her grow and gain this adorable little personality.
With a stunning Mummy who is from Bali and Aussie Dad, little Jadira has the most perfect skin and cute as a button looks. I searched high and low for the outfits for her session, i wanted rompers that would compliment her gorgeous skin tone and bring out those beautiful brown eyes, i think we nailed it 🙂 Thanks to Posy and Poppy designs for the rompers, i was so thrilled to find these unique outfits.
This gallery is by far a favourite for me and i hope you really enjoy the sneak peek into Jadira’s 6-month sitter session.

I thought I’d explain the cost of newborn sessions and pricing of quality, professional portraits.
A customer recently asked why my portraits are ‘so expensive’. I kindly explained why we price the sessions the way we do and the reasoning behind them.
With the ongoing costs of running a business (insurance, wear and tare on my gear and props, cost of products that come with packages, etc), the hours spent editing your images and getting your beautiful gallery ready, to produce quality portraits is not cheap.
As an example, if you pay a photographer $600.00 for a portrait session, once we work out our time setting up your session, time spent taking your images, post session processing and editing, preparing your gallery, we are roughly paid under $10 an hour.
Newborn photography is a very highly skilled field. Newborn photographers work tirelessly studying, keeping up-to-date on immunisations and safety aspects (I myself subscribe to two education sites on newborn and portrait photography to ensure my work is the best it can be), sourcing beautiful new props and wraps to ensure that your baby is safe at all times during a newborn session. I have invested years in studying photography, particularly newborn photography, to ensure that what I hand over to my clients are stunning, professional quality images.
So please, when considering the price of newborn session, consider what goes into the entire session, as our work doesn’t stop once we leave the studio. I put my heart and soul into my newborn sessions and the images to ensure that my clients enjoy top quality portraits that will last a lifetime.
I am still trying to catch up on sharing all my recent gorgeous newborn photography sessions with you! We have been so busy capturing so many beautiful baby’s that i forget what galleries i have shared and one’s i have missed.
Darling Kobie, this little baby girl came to visit me with her two sisters and the images are simply beautiful. It’s a sea of purples, flowers and earthy tones. Such a perfect mix 🙂 We had a short time frame to capture these, but we managed to capture some beauties!
I hope you enjoy a few snippets from gorgeous Kobie’s gallery.
